Crabbing and Clamming
Coyote Rock guests come to the Oregon coast for a variety of reasons. Crabbing and clamming are high on the list of things to do. They are easy to do, you can bring your own equipment or rent your gear for minimal cost. The whole family can join in, enjoy time together and have tons of fun.
Dungeness crab is some of the best eating you will find, especially when you catch them yourself. Bring your own boat, rent one or from shore the season in bays and estuaries is open year round. Siletz Bay has had tremendous crabbing. Rent a boat and crab at the Hwy 101 bridge, bring your own boat and we will provide directions to get out in the bay or off the beach at Mo’s. Crabbing is best around slack tide. You will come back again and again.
Bay clamming in Siletz Bay is fun and very productive. You can catch cockles, butter and varnish clams. The kids will not only have fun playing in the sand but they will help you get dinner. Makes excellent clam chowder or clam fritters. Yum.. Clamming is best at low or minus tides.
Razor clamming is fun and challenging for the whole family. Razors are large, meaty and delicious. Agate beach is the closest place to Coyote Rock to get razors. A short drive to Newport is all it takes.
